What Is Qianru
Qian (qiān) — Shuowen Jiezi records: “Qian is water. It rises northwest of Qian County in Fufeng and flows into the Wei River.” The character originally referred to an ancient river, now known as the Qian River—one of the quiet waterways from which the civilizations of the Zhou and Qin dynasties emerged. Qianru draws upon the nature of still water as a metaphor for a way of being: warm yet composed, restrained yet self-possessed, with a strength that gathers over time.
Ru (rú) — The Kangxi Dictionary records: “Ru, pronounced rú, an ancient name of a state.” The character incorporates “邑,” traditionally associated with a place or realm, suggesting a domain rooted in humanistic culture—a clear and tranquil spiritual landscape, deliberately removed from the commonplace and drawn toward stillness.
